Date associated with the first 'level' we have for any given index. I don't think 'Inception Date' is appropriate since we don't have data for a number of indices back to their true Inception Date.

Value Add - this makes 'Since Inception' calcs a billion times easier in Excel. Also, opens the door for some type of filter/section on YCharts to find indices within a certain category with x number of years since 'Start Date', as this is typically the most critical criteria a user considers when choosing an index.

Carl, given that we are about to add return since inception, is this still useful?

I think the second half of the second paragraph still holds true. If at some point we could add a way to filter indices by start date, it would add value for a number of customers. but until that's a possibility, i'd say there isn't much value adding it now.
