Spread Normalized Data in Fundamental Chart

I feel like this has been something that was discussed in the past but couldn't find it anywhere in UR.
Simple example: Spreading total return performance of two stocks (Link). When using the spreads tool to accomplish this, the result in the bottom pane is different than what is shown in the chart above.
Let me know if you need more detail or I'm no being clear enough.
