When it comes to templates the Excel add-in is robust and I use them often. Where I have a harder time is creating things on my own from scratch. In particular the formula wizard requires a lot of the user and doesn’t have many assists. Pulling historical AUM data is a simple example.

  • Ticker: simple enough if you know the fund and its ticker but a search function would be helpful otherwise.
  • Calc: a search function or list would be very helpful here. To the best of my knowledge you either have to have the calc entered into a cell and reference it or type it exactly into the box. This requires referencing a separate document.
  • StartDate and EndDate: no guidance is given on how to format the input. Standard calendar dropdown would be helpful.
  • Reserve and all fields below: there are brief descriptions of varying usefulness for each of the fields but no guidance on what valid inputs are. My guess for reverse is 1 or 0 but it is only a guess.

Some but not all questions can be answered by referencing other documents but the more self-contained the better in my opinion.

Ticker and calc search would be awesome, but is obviously limited because of MS Excel. However, maybe have a ? with a link to the reference guides? Maybe in the deadlink "Help on this topic" it can take you back to the website to find the metric?

Start Date/Endate, et al, may benefit from an example on the right-hand side, instead of a calendar or dropdown.
